Also, if you have not read The Hobbit, I suggest you do,that would help you understand the trilogy more.

Our story begins in Hobbiton, a small Hobbit town in the Shire, the place where all Hobbits dwell. Most Hobbits like to keep out of other's business and live a life of solitude, Bilbo Baggins was once a Hobbit like that, until Gandalf gave him a shove out the door...

The Fellowship starts at Bilbo's 111 birthday, very old for Hobbits. It's been more than sixty years since his adventure and since he found his magic ring. Bilbo has promised Gandalf that he would leave ALL his possesions to Frodo, even his magic ring. This is where we get the first hint that this ring is the one ring. Frodo inherits the ring and is told to keep it safe until Gandalf returns. When he returns Gandalf is now sure that this ring is the one ring. Frodo and his evesdropping Gardner Sam must now get to Bree and wait for Gandalf there. Frodo sells everything, including Bag End and everything in it to his nasty Relatives the Sacksville-Baggins. Before leaving Frodo and Sam are accompanied by Merry and Pippin who will not take no for an answer...

On their way to Bree, the Hobbits run into the Ringwraiths, but get away. They are helped to Buklberry Ferry by Farmer Maggot in his wagon. The Hobbits then enter the Realm of Tom Bombadil. The Ring has no power over this character, but he's a different story...Tom Saves the Hobbits from Old Man Willow, a grumpy old tree and a cavewraith also. Then the Hobbits are back on their way to Bree. The night before they get to Bree they see lightning on the Ramtop. The lightning is Gandalf fighting the ringwraiths. The Hobbits finally get to Bree and go to the inn of the Prancing Pony. There they drink and sing and dance. Frodo is careless here and the ring slips on his finger and he disappears. This alerts the spys of Saruman in the town that the ring is indeed in Bree. IN the night, the Ringwraiths came and thought they killed the Hobbits, but infact they had only stabbed pillows put their by Mr. Butterbur(Innkeeper) and his assistant. Alas, their horses had been driven off, and only one remained-owned by the mean and evil Bill Ferny.

Off the Hobbits and Strider went, making their way towards Rivendell, to the Ramtop where he was stabbed with a Morgul Dagger. They were running to try and get to Rivedell to try and heal Frodo and get out of Danger. An elf by the name og Glorfindel lent Frodo his horse so that he might beat to Wraiths to the River. Once past the ford, Frodo was safe and the Wraiths were defeated by the waters protecting Riveldell and the help of Gandalf. In Rivendell, Frodo wad reunited with Bilbo and at a celebration Bilbo tried to take the ring away from Frodo, and was ashamed of himself. Elrond called together a council from all the different realms-men, elves, and dwarves. It was agreed the the ring must be destroyed. A Fellowship of nine is gathered to start for Mordor.

Meanwhile Bilbo gives Frodo Sting the elvenblade that will glow blue when Orcs are around. He is also given mithril the hardest metal known on earth. They then set out for Mordor.

On their way they learn that the Gap of Rohan is being watched so the only ways to go are through Moria or over the mountain. The mountain defeats them, but does not kill them (thanks to Boromir who brought wood up with them.) They then start to head for Moria. On the way they are attacked by wolves. When the Fellowship finally reaches the mines, Gandalf cannot remember the word(s) to open the door. Frodo solves the riddle and the door opens. The party finds that Moria is a graveyard, but as they are going to try for the Gap of Rohan a monster from the lake attacks them forcing them into the mine and collapsing the way out. The Fellowship must now brave the depths of Moria...

With Gandalf leading the way, the Fellowship slowly makes it's way through the mine with out much incident. They reach the final resting place of Balin(A dwarf introduced in The Hobbit) and learn what happened. Just as they do, Pippin knocks over a dwarf skeleton down a well and drums start to pound. They make a stand in the room fighting off the orcs and goblins, but the orcs have brought a cave troll. The Fellowship deafeats the Troll and makes a run for the bridge. They are then surrounded, but the orcs quickly vanish for a strabge reason...

It is one of the most evil monsters of old, a Balrog. The Fellowship makes a run for the birdge again. As the last member crosses the bridge Gandalf stops and fights off the Balrog. Gandalf is taken down into the bottomless abyss by the Balrog, but the Fellowship goes on without him. Strider leads the way into Lothlorien. There they are greeted by Galadrial and she lets Frodo gaze into her mirror. On their journey out Galadrial gives Legolas a Bow, Gimli some strands of her hair, and the hobbits some fine short swords...
Frodo now knows that the fellowship will fall and that he must go on alone after Boromir attacks him trying to get the ring. To make things worse Sauruman has sent Uruk-Hai after the fellowship and they have caught up. These beings take Merry and Pippin captive and slay Bormir, but Strider kills their leader. Meanwhile Frodo and Sam are crossing the river and heading into Mordor alone...
